The Sabre Design Concept - Sailing Yachts

Sabre sailing yachts are medium displacement, performance cruising yachts, blending the comfort of cruising, the capacity for bluewater passage making, and the capability of race winning performance.

Sabre's first design, the Sabre 28, was developed from an extensive tank testing program at Stevens Institute. Today, Computer Aided Design techniques and performance prediction programs have allowed Sabre to take the latest Jim Taylor's hull lines directly from the drawing board to the tooling shop. Sabre's design developments have been evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary, and have always remained true to the design philosophy of performance and traditional styling balanced with safety and comfort. Jim Taylor's work is primarily in hull design, underwater appendage and basic rig plans, and is complemented by the Sabre Design Team in developing the full details of the deck and interior accommodation layout.

Sabre sailing yachts are designed for a high load carrying capacity, and stability is achieved both by hull form and by high ballast-to-displacement ratios. Efficient keel shapes allow optimum lift and provide excellent performance as well as close upwind pointing angles.

Sail plans are developed to offer the best possible balance of light air performance and heavy weather stability. Sail areas are selected to allow a full mainsail and 150% genoa to be comfortably carried up to 14 knots of wind. This "rule of thumb" will vary depending on the sail cut and rig tension of individual boats.

The Sabre motor yacht range includes the Sabre 38 and 42 Hard Top Express, the Sabre 40 and 42 Sedan and Fly Bridge, the Sabre 46 Salon Express and the Sabre 52 Salon Express and Fly Bridge. For 2011 Sabre will introduce the all-new and exciting Sabre 46 Salon Express and the new Sabre 52 Fly Bridge Sedan with Volvo IPS propulsion system. All Sabre models are designed by the Sabre Design Team and offer luxurious accommodations and comfort mixed with outstanding performance.

The Sabre Motoryacht Design Concept

The Sabre range is a development of the style and comfort of the traditional "Downeast style" yacht blended with the performance of a contemporary motoryacht. Typical cruising speeds, with average weight conditions and sea state, are in the 20 knot range and top speeds, with average load conditions are between 25 and 30 knots depending on the model. Higher cruise and top end speeds are available on some models.

At low engine speeds, the Sabre range is very fuel efficient and at speeds of 8-10 knots, where typical trawler yachts operate, low speed gunkholing is a pleasure. But when conditions or time call for higher speeds, the performance of the Sabre deep-vee hulls truly comes into it's own.

In rough sea conditions, the spray rails and chines of Sabre hulls keep the deck and windshield dry.

The Sabre Motoryacht range includes Hard Top Express models from 34 to 52 feet and the exciting Sabre 52 Salon Express. It also includes three fly bridge sedan models at 40, 42 and 52 feet. These award designs from the Sabre Design Team offer luxurious accommodations and comfort mixed with outstanding performance.

The Sabre range includes one aft cabin motor yacht, the Sabre 47. The 36 and 42 Fly Bridge Sedans are available with or without fly bridges and an optional extended hard top which covers the cockpit area is also available. The award winning Sabre 38 and 42 Hard Top Express are the latest designs from the Sabre Design Team and offer luxurious accommodations and comfort mixed with outstanding performance.

This diversity of product styles makes the Sabre range one of the most flexible and versatile ranges in the boating industry today.
